ON THE SURFACE

‘On the Surface’ is a collection of images and texts that discusses the issue of skin and everything that it entails - the good, the bad and the ugly. Rachel first started this project as a way to explore the art forms within people skin through marks upon your skin - scars, conditions, tattoos, etc. However, soon the project turned into something with so much more meaning, both to the artist and the subjects. ‘On the Surface’ became a way for people to openly talk about and learn about yourself as well as the people you love - it became a project that provoked discussion. Through a series of documentary photographs accompanied by prose, this project celebrates everything that lies both on top of the skin, and what may lay beneath.

Subjects

Although for now the project has been paused, Rachel plans to continue it in the future, and is currently one of her favourite projects to date. The series works with a number of subjects and their skin, and you are able to read about each person within the pages below by clicking on their photographs.
